Department of Biotechnology

Vision and Mission
Vision

The vision of the department was framed in a light of new challenges in life science and health care systems. Student research interest and research experience of the faculty and state of the art facilities of the department has a vision of research excellence. To nurture excellent bioengineers with a potential to innovate, invent and disseminate knowledge for the benefit of society and environment. Our vision is to promote, support and facilitate the development of Biotechnology. Department of Biotechnology will train and prepare students to become competent Biotechnologists who will be able to apply principles of engineering and life sciences to solve a wide array of problems in a global society and to do so will develop new cost effective alternative technologies. It also engages interaction with research sponsoring agencies like DST, AICTE, UGC, CSIR, DBT, etc.

Mission

Missions of Biotechnology Department is to generate high-quality engineering professionals by offering UG (B.Tech.) and PG (M.Tech. and Ph.D.) programs in Biotechnology and to develop a premier biotechnology teaching and research department to cater the needs and challenges of the region and the country. Regular updating of the course curriculum to cater to the needs of academia and industry. Initiate multi-disciplinary programs through an academia-industry interface with special emphasis on implementation of bioprocess design and scale-up. Emphasis on recent trends in biotechnology through the organization of conferences, symposia, workshops. Dedicated Postgraduate Programmes (M. Tech, Ph.D.) have been developed and revised regularly. The Mission of department are mentioned below -

[1] Research and Innovation- Research and Innovation bridge the gap between the biotechnology frontiers and innovation, to provide cutting edge original research in plant, animal, medical, industrial and environmental biotechnology.

[2] Excellent in Engineering Skills- Typically, to provide ability to manufacturer existing medicines in a relatively easy and cheaper manner than some Pharmaceutical companies, some key skills sets which we support in this sector include: Bioinformatics, Research & Development, Quality Assurance, Bioprocessing, Upstream and Downstream Processing, Gene Therapy and Biotechnologist

[3] Professional Ethics- Ethical issues arise across the entire life cycle of a biotechnological product or technique, from laboratory research to broader testing, to product development, to general diffusion and uses.

[4] Industry Interaction- an Institutional initiative with university–industry interaction to develop innovative biotechnology. [5] Training in the State of art areas- To provide excellent hands-on training with state of the art lectures to graduate/post graduate candidates either pursuing or passed out in the field of biotechnology, molecular biology, microbiology, biochemistry, bioinformatics, biosensing & other related fields of life sciences. It was dedicated to providing new talent to biotech/pharma industries & research organization by giving advance industrial training through the team of expert & young scientist/ research associates.

[6] Software development skills- To identify trends in engineering work in three rapidly growing and technology-intensive industries: biotechnology, software development, and information technology.
