The department is committed to higher education and research in the areas of Chemistry, Chemical Engineering & Polymer Technology. It strives to cater to society and industries by providing high standards in teaching, research and industrial liaising. Facilitating R&D activities at UG and PG levels is the prime concern of the department. Innovations are focussed to deliver solutions to real-world problems of chemical and polymer industries by developing green technologies, novel separation processes, and synthesis of novel and advanced products. Henceforth, with the realization of the importance of chemicals, and especially polymers, that dominate as an integral fragment of our day-to-day lives and also serve as precursors to a number of industries. Keeping in view the broader perspective for the placement of the students and the demand of Chemical Engineers in the worldwide industrial and academic sectors, the department has reoriented the B. Tech Polymer Science and Chemical Technology to B.Tech. Chemical Engineering with a major revision in the existing curriculum from the academic year 2020-21. The department also offers Minor Specializations in Petrochemical Engineering, Polymer Technology and Chemical Engineering to B.Tech. students

The department has introduced M.Sc. Chemistry program with specializations in Organic, Inorganic and Physical Chemistry from the academic year 2021-22. The core objective of the program is to train students with essential theoretical and practical skills that will enable them to secure jobs in chemical industries/teaching institutes or pursue a Ph.D. program in reputed national/international University.

The syllabus of the programs offered by the department has been designed to bridge the gap between academia and industries. The department is equipped with state-of-the-art laboratories including Chemical Reaction Engineering, Fluid Mechanics, Heat and Mass Transfer, Instrumentation & Control, Polymer Testing, Polymer Characterization, Polymer Processing, Computer-Aided Design, Material Science, Chemical Technology and Central Instrumentation facility for R & D activities. Experienced faculty and advanced analytical equipment like FTIR, DSC, TGA, HPLC, Electro-Spinning, DMA, UTM, Rotational Rheometer, Limiting Oxygen Index Apparatus etc. with up-to-date curriculum, infrastructure and services account for the excellent track record of the department in research and innovation.

The faculty supervises Ph.D. and projects in Medicinal Chemistry, Bio-nano-interface, Bioactive Glasses, Conducting Polymers, Organic/ Polymer Solar Cells, Polymeric Hydrogels, Wound Dressings, Polyurethane foams, Novel Separation Processes, Polymer Composites etc.

The students of the department are actively involved in Professional societies such as Indian Institute of Chemical Engineers and American Chemical Society and take active participation in an Annual Tech fest ‘TATVA’. This has surged the network of the department including major research-based entities across the world. The department has also undertaken and accomplished numerous research and industrial projects funded by AICTE, CSIR, UGC, DRDO, DST, BARC, etc. A good number of our graduates, every year, enroll in higher studies in universities of repute at the international level A large number of our alumni have successfully found their niche in India and abroad with many reputed companies.
